Current Event #4

My article is about two football players intentionally hitting a official in the back. My article “Texas coach accused of ordering players to hit referee resigns” was found on CNN.com. Several players from John Jay High School said their assistant coach ordered them to “level the official.” In the video found online, the incident was clearly not an accident. There was rumor that the official, Robert Watts, was calling the players the N- work. Watts denied the comments of racial slurs in his five page statement. Coach Breed, who was currently on administrative leave before his resignation was not allowed to continue coaching until he had met with the Board. I feel that Coach Breed is in a position to teach and mentor children, but not teach them to hurt someone that has done nothing to them. Although Coach Breed denied telling the players to tackle the referee, I wonder why he would resign unless it was true.
If actions like this were to spread around we would have so many injured referees, but also more very rude coaches telling kids to ram the officials.

Current Event #3

The topic of my article is about a 14 year old who was arrested for building a clock from scratch. In my article “Clock-making teen transferring to another school, Family says,” from CNN.com, Ahmed Mohamed built a clock that he was very proud and brought it to school to show everyone. Because he brought the clock to school police initially and falsely said it was a Hoax bomb and arrested the young teenager for having it. By mid week Ahmed’s face was plastered on social media, and he had received thousands of tweets and facebook post of encouragement. President Obama even invited him to the White House. Ahmed was questioned for about an hour and a half. Right away he asked if he could call his parents but the police officers said “no you’re in the middle of an interrogation.” He said he felt like a criminal and a terrorist, he said he feels like the names he was called in middle school such as bombmaker and terrorist. He said “ just because of my race and religion I’m being called these names” and an officer replied “That’s who I thought it was.” Ahmed took this to mean that the officer was pointing at him because of his race.
I feel that Ahmed was treated unfairly because of his race and religion. I don’t think those police officers would have thought about it being a bomb if it were someone who isn’t a muslim. I feel that this is going to bring more problems and separation in the US. And that is the last thing this nation needs.

Current Event- Racism

This topic of my article is about racism coming from a police chief, to one of his fellow workers. In the article “Oregon officer turns in police chief, Allege racism” from CNN.com the chief of police compared African-Americans to monkeys. Stone, the officer who made the complaints, also received death threats, a flat tire, and now his kids are scared to walk outside. Stone said that chief of police Hoover was “scratching, chanting and beating his chest like tarzan, while comparing African-Americans to monkeys.”
I feel that Chief of police hoover was way out of line. Definitely since it was towards one of his fellow workers. I don’t understand why anyone has to be racist towards different races. If you are going to treat someone like that then you should be prepared for the same thing. And I bet most would complain about being treated that even though they have treated someone that way. I feel that Hoover should be fired for his actions.
This impacts the world by bringing more racism up in the US. We are supposed to be a nation that helps everyone and that is united. We can’t be united if we are separating people by races. What happened to “All men are created equal.” Not everyone thinks we are equal with these comments coming out of People’s mouths.
